On September 12th we drove from Cheney, WA to Mt. Rainier NP. In the early part of this drive we traversed the Yakima valley, where some of the best apples in the US come from. We saw many apple, pear, and peach orchards throughout this important agricultural region. We also drove through a Washington county that boasted the highest potato production in the country. Who knew? One would think that would have been in Idaho. We also went right through the town of Yakima where our car-top carrier was manufactured. The kids got a kick out of the fact that our carrier was retuning home to its “birthplace” to say hi to all its relatives. It must be a human universal to personify all kinds of inanimate objects. Grace and Julia are especially adept at this skill and stay busy for hours pretending all kinds of things. As you can see below all they need is a few sticks and some pinecones. They created this campfire (complete with roasted pine cones for marshmallows at our campsite at Cougar Rock in Rainier).
Photos of our drive across Eastern Washington to Mt. Rainier can be found here.
