For Banana Slugs!
These air breathing terrestrial slugs aren't big news to Californians (the mascot for UC Santa Cruz is a Banana Slug after all), but these creatures seem crazy to a couple of Georgia Peaches. We've seen at least two of the three species called banana slugs (the California banana slug Ariolimax californicus and the Pacific Banana slug Ariolimax colubianus), and we've witnessed their slime trails and seemingly enormous size (they can reach 25cm in length)!
On one of our hikes today we encountered a banana slug alley, and Julia couldn't help but start counting. For the record Grace reports that she saw 330 slugs, but Julia achieved a more modest number, as you can see in the video below.
